Sean and Alicia
Told on:
April 12, 2025 in St. Louis, Missouri
Event Summary:
A Romantic Spring Engagement Session at the Missouri Botanical Garden
Returning to Where It All Began
There are some couples who feel like home the moment you see them through your lens, and for me, Alicia and Sean are exactly that. Alicia is a sorority sister of mine from college, and when she met Sean, it felt like the kind of love story you celebrate with your whole heart.
Photographing them in fall of 2023 was such a joy — we laughed, we explored, and we created some of my favorite images together. So stepping back behind the camera with them for their official engagement session felt beautifully full-circle. It was one of those moments where time folds in on itself, and suddenly you’re capturing a new chapter of a story you’ve loved watching unfold.
I already cannot wait for their wedding on April 17, 2026 at Westwind Hills. If their engagement session is any indication, it’s going to be pure magic.
Choosing the Perfect Location — A Botanical Garden Dream
When Alicia told me she wanted their engagement photos somewhere beautiful without choosing one of the typical St. Louis spots, I immediately knew we needed something special. Something romantic, unique, full of lush scenery and texture.
The moment she suggested the Missouri Botanical Garden, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. With its curated landscapes, architectural details, and its ability to feel like multiple destinations in one… it was the perfect choice.
Truly, there were moments during our session when it felt like we’d flown to a completely different state — or country. Spring blooms, serene water features, winding paths… the gardens are a dream for romantic, editorial engagement photography.
Warm Hellos & Shaking the “We’re Awkward” Myth
We started our session at the greenhouse, greeted by hugs and the kind of energy that feels like picking up right where you left off.
Like so many couples, Alicia and Sean said, “We’re awkward in front of the camera.”
And like always — I don’t believe it for a second.
I’ve learned over the years that “awkward” is just another word for “we haven’t seen ourselves through the eyes of someone who loves this moment yet.” My favorite thing to do is show my couples photos straight from the back of my camera — the moments they thought felt awkward, but are actually pure magic.
After I showed Alicia a preview, she looked at me and said,
“You’re a wizard.”
One of my favorite compliments of all time. And one I hold close because it means I’ve created a space where their love can be exactly what it is — effortless, natural, and real.
Exploring the Gardens — Cherry Blossoms, Bridges & Soft Spring Light
We wandered throughout the Botanical Garden, letting curiosity and beauty guide us. The Chinese and Japanese Gardens quickly became favorites — cherry blossoms in full bloom, sunlight dancing across the water, and stone bridges creating the perfect blend of elegance and simplicity.
The scenery was stunning, but the real beauty was Alicia and Sean themselves. Their connection is soft and sweet, filled with tender glances, gentle touches, and a kind of joy that radiates. My favorite part was watching the way Sean looks at Alicia — like he knows he’s the luckiest man in the world.
Every time I clicked the shutter, I found myself saying,
“Wow, I love this.”
Because truly — the images were turning out effortless, timeless, and full of heart.
Why Engagement Sessions Matter So Much
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the entire wedding journey. They’re a chance to slow down, play, wander, and get creative. A chance to get comfortable with the camera and even more excited for the wedding day ahead.
And for Alicia and Sean?
This session felt like a chapter we’ll all look back on and smile — gentle, dreamy, romantic, and such a beautiful prelude to their Westwind Hills wedding next spring.
I feel so honored to capture their love story — then, now, and soon, on the day they become husband and wife.
